o find information regarding commonly encountered support issues
please refer to the resonses listed below.
Website Statistics:
Q.
My website statistics are showing a large number of visitors from Virginia and California. Is this correct?
A.
The statistics will show every visitor to your site and the province/state they are from.
However search engine spiders are also logged as visitors when they scan your website for
new/changed content. Some major search engine companies happen to be located in these Virginia
and California and should be made note of when viewing your stats.
Q.
I can only go back a year into the history of my statistics. Have the logs been lost?
A.
No. Your website logs are never deleted but may be archived. Within your stats package
you will only be able to view in-depth statistics for approximately 1 year prior to today.
Statistics prior to older than 1 year are condensed and will only show accumulated values.
You may acquire your website's raw logfiles can be acquired by contacting Technical Support.
Q.
My statistics seem to show less visitors than I expected. Am I missing statistics?
A.
When you first log into your stats package you will be currently viewing the current
weeks worth of visitors. The start of a week is saturday, midnight. Once you've logged
into your stats account choose an appropriate date range to the left of the page.
Search Engines:
Q.
What about my meta tags? I've received calls from companies claiming they can boost
my ranking in search engines. Should I pay them to do this?
A.
Even though you would like your site to reach the top of search engine pages, the
most important thing you can do is add relevant text content within your site.
DO NOT pay Internet Marketing companies to increase
your ranking in search engines. These companies are popping out of the woodwork.
You would most likely be better served by asking a web designer you trust for advice on
Meta Tags and Keywords. Most often they can offer you more accurate information than
any telemarketer.
Also, do not worry because you've submitted your site to a search engine and it's
still not listed in the search results. Over time your site will be found and will
get increasing traffic.
Finally, the more popular search engines are those that crawl through the Internet
site-to-site using a SPIDERING process. This means that the spider program used by
the search engine indexes text and links on pages it finds. When it is done scanning
the first site, it will then follow the links to other sites to index those sites.
Every link that is found is investigated and indexed. Therefor, ask your friends to
add your website link to their own websites to further your chances of being indexed
yourself.
GOOGLE.CA
is one among the very few search engines that spider websites AND does not
offer a higher ranking for money. Google is also CANADIAN.
(If an Internet marketing company contacts you check to see how high they are listed in a search
engine by searching for INTERNET MARKETING.)
